Background
The United States of America, Ireland and Northern Ireland have come together for a unique initiative to increase the level of collaborative R&D amongst researchers and industry across the three jurisdictions that will generate innovations to the marketplace and lead to improvements in healthcare, disease prevention and other technologies. is U.S.-Ireland R&D Partnership has its origins in the U.S.-Ireland Business Summit that took place in Washington, DC in 2002.
The following thematic areas have been identified as representing a unique opportunity in terms of research interests, health care and economic development and reflect the potential for the island of Ireland to play a meaningful role in research areas internationally recognised to be of pivotal significance for the 21st century:
-
Diabetes
-
Emerging Respiratory Infections
-
Cystic Fibrosis
-
Nanotechnology
-
Sensors
The goal is to promote three-way, transnational, collaborative peer-reviewed research projects that address the visionary and exciting research challenges in the above areas.
The Partnership is guided by a joint Steering Group composed of senior representatives from government, academia and private industry across the three jurisdictions. The secretariat for the island of Ireland is provided by InterTradeIreland.
The AIC looks forward to the opportunities provided by such a unique event.
